Drawing an Angel for Satan

I drew this picture to go with a discussion of the Brit cult film BLOOD ON SATAN'S CLAW or BOSC as it's known around the studio. Arguably the best Brit horror every made - the arguments we have here are legendary over this fact -lol . I knew that the film's central character Angel Blake ( played by the sexy Linda Hayden) would be central to my piece of art. The bloody shears , the oogling villagers and watching crow - all elements pivotal to the film. The up-shot gave here a regality especially when crowned with May flowers.

Most problematic was capturing Angel's face - after countless attempts I resorted to layout paper ( to loosen up) before lightboxing this onto the finished art - wiping tears of frustration aside. Adding an animation style colour pallete seemed to give her an extra angelic look...

  1. Briliant pic! Might have taken a bit of trial and error, but I reckon you captured Linda Hayden (not literally of course), it's all in the eyebrows.
Best brit horror? Definitely one of them.

  3. I love this piece, I'd recently watched the film the first time I saw it and it really captures the essence of LH. Now just wait until Ade gets his peepers on a certain earlier film from the Hayden filmography ;)

I'm personally fascinated by looking at the pre-colored work from Ade, the pencils are always cool and look quite different from the final piece.

BG, you know who to ask my friend...

  4. BOSC is "easy" to find,Bill-and i suspect most of us here already have it-lol

we also look forward to what's gonna happen in here-the 3 of us separately are quite...uhm... unique-but together...brrrrr...scary...;o)

  5. Paul - likenesses are always tricky when you stylise - there's always that moment when you lose touch and have to start again and again and again. We've all been there. I think if a character has a dinstictive look you can get away with murder more easily. My own infatuation with BOSC added much pressure.

George - Thanks man ! - whilst i'll be plundering my own vaults - hopefully I'll get some new stuff up soon - real world deadlines permitting. Barbarians at the

  7. ullo, ade. 'bout time you came from under that giant mutant crab-shell.

a stunning pic from a stunning film. what always hits me about your work is the elegant shapes/composition. and this piece, with the long hair, thorny-crown and the tree, and just the right amount of black, sez it all in style.

how bout you put up a mini-gallery? and run the TERRY SHARP strip from the FANGORIA site? and DR.WHO spot illo's? and sketchbook stuff? phone doodles? scribbles? anything and everything - quick now! 'for you go back in hiding.

  9. Thanks very much for the suggestions and support for the Studio guys! I'll look into the Terry Sharp strip SHADOWDANCE that ran on the Fang website. I don't have the Flash version of the strip myself - but I wouldn't mind converting it back ( putting the pieces together) - so it can be read as a regular style story.Very enjoyable to work on - standing stones , ghostly druids ( a dash of the Blind Dead in flavour) and Mike Ripper. Damn I'd read it!:-)

Some WHO stuff is certainly on the cards - though ideally I'd like to focus on stuff I do outside the mainstream. Like the LITTLE SHOPPE OF HORRORS pix that got *away*.
